The identidification of the sanctuary is based on votive inscriptions on pottery. Unfortunately the pottery findings do not certainly place the origins of the cult as early as Naukratis was founded. Problematic also, is the dating of the temple. Gardner noted only a ‘piece of egg moulding in limestone’ that today is lost. The only chronological index, could be the pottery, but the only pottery in context is the Hera cups, which are dated from c. 625 to the second half of the 6th c.B.C.
