The acropolis of Eressos is located on a naturally defensive hill on the SW coast of the island, which in antiquity it was called Mastos.

The fortified wall was structured of trachite and some of its parts were built in lesbian polygonal masonry. The total length of the wall is estimated 1km.

Despite the insufficient archaeological and stratigraphical evidence, based on Strabo (13.618) Eressos was founded in the late BA, after the arrival of the Aeoleis. Based on the remains of the fortication, the settlement could be roughly dated within the A period.
