Toumba Gkona (or Gona) lies in close proximity to the Thermaic gulf, just 1,5km from the coastline. Today, is located inside the plot of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (ΑΠΘ) just next to the right side of the road which leads from the provincial road Thessaloniki-New Michaniona to the airport of Thessaloniki 'Macedonia'.

The creation of the Toumba can be placed at least in the 9th c. BC and it was inhabited until the Rom period. The earliest archaeological evidence dates to the EBA. Regarding the EIA and the EA periods, the evidence is limited to ceramic finds.
