The site lies near the village of Koutiphari, situated on the high plateau of W Maina, which overlooks the Gulf of Kalamata, at a distance ca. 35 miles from Kalamata, and 10 miles from the small port of Oetylus.

Ancient remains were found, including a small LH settlement, as well as EIA walls, columns and figurines. According to an inscription to Pasiphae, the site is identified as Thalamai/Thalamae.
